Ana Belchí

Ana Belchí

Ana Belchí is a contemporary jewelry artist specialized in the use of polymer clay, glass and silver as a means of artistic expression.

She has spent fifteen years designing custom accessories for individuals and runway events like three shows of Francis Montesinos for Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week, for fashion designer Carlos Haro or La Fierecilla Domada for Valencia Fashion Week.

Her designs have a minimalist look, with very pure lines and natural colors. She assures that she can’t design without a previous concept and makes a strong emphasis on the psychological treatment of its parts.

In addition to her passion for design, Ana is in love with teaching, and she has carried out that passion in various fields for over sixteen years. Focused now on teaching polymer clay, she became the first person in Spain that has led polymer clay to an Official School of Jewelry Arts (EASD Murcia).

Melanie West

Bio

Melanie lives in the woods of Maine, surrounded by a plethora of wild life, including moose, bob cat, fox, coyotes, lots of song birds, wild turkeys and of course, ravens.

What drives Melanie’s current work with polymer and mixed media is a life long fascination with Nature’s use of extravagant forms, colors and patterns. Nature never ceases to amaze, and she has always been compelled to answer that amazement in her work.

Melanie’s vessels and wearable art express a very personal, sensual experience, using a dream like impression of Melanie’s unique vision of Nature.

Melanie West: A Unique Way of Organic Caning – Full of Depth and Color!

Workshop Description

This is a technique based workshop, not a project specific workshop.

In this workshop, students will gain a solid understanding of how to make the canes I use in my current work, using hand pigmented, translucent polymer clay. Different materials for pigmentation will be covered, and the different effects one can achieve.

Christine Dumont: Transforming Clay

Workshop Description

The property of the clay can be altered to great effects through the use of additives. The clay now responds more effusively and creatively to the lighter touch of the artist who can focus on simpler design.

Whether I am working on jewelry or sculptural vessels and wall hung art, my greatest interest is in combining diverse designs, colors, textures and materials in unexpected ways.  Pairing smooth, dull surfaces with a coarse piece of glittering pyrite; delicate pearls perched in a volcanic explosion of highly textured polymer; low end man made materials paired with the luxury of silver or bronze are the kind of studies that gets my heart beating loudly. The thrill for me is in balancing these diverse elements into a cohesive statement. The biggest compliment I can receive is when a viewer tells me my work looks like something they might find near the ocean, under a tree or perhaps on some other planet.

I discovered polymer in 2010 and have found it an ideal material suited to my aesthetics and tactile sensibilities. My background in painting, and ceramics has given me a great jumping off point into working with this very modern material as I continually discover new avenues when working with it.
