Christine Dumont: Transforming Clay
The property of the clay can be altered to great effects through the use of additives. The clay now responds more effusively and creatively to the lighter touch of the artist who can focus on simpler design.
This workshop introduces participants to two additives that will transform the way they work with clay.
Specifically, participant will:
- learn how to enhance the visual quality of the clay by giving it granularity and “tooth”,
- learn how to create depth by giving clay glazing properties,
- explore how to do “decollage”, a design technique which creates patterns by tearing and rubbing
away previously applied clay.
Participants will also learn how to make a bangle that is light yet sturdy to show off the veneer created during the class.
