It’s All About Horses

In Sweden, polymer clay is mostly considered as something for children, not as art material. I will present the very small Scandinavian polymer clay community and talk about my personal development as a Swedish polymer clay artist, showing my sources of inspiration and how I created some of my pieces of art.

I often ”translate” jewellery techniques into sculpture. I will also explain why I have specialized in these very special horse sculptures. In August 2017 I have participated as a gallery artist at two of Sweden’s biggest horse shows; Jönköping Scandinavian Horse Show and Falsterbo Horse Show and I will share what I learned from that. I will also discuss my interesting collaboration with Swedish ceramist Xanna Åkervinda and also show my contribution to ”Into the Forest” – the things on some trees that start as green leaves but develop to small horses that fall to the ground, become orange and run away… They really are new leaves…

Monday, August 14 – Afternoon

Presenter: EvaMarie Törnström

Bio

EvaMarie Törnström comes from an old family of artists. Her ancestor Johan Törnström was one of Sweden’s most well-known figurehead sculptors in the 18th century. EvaMarie always thought she was a painter, until her artistic life totally changed as she one day in March 2011 met polymer clay in an art shop at Denver airport and understood that you can ”paint” in three dimensions.
Horses have a very long tradition in art because they have for thousands of years been very important for the whole mankind. In her polymer clay art EvaMarie uses the shape of horses to come closer to people’s hearts, to tell stories and to raise issues.
