Donna Greenberg: Tidal Pool Pendants
The ‘Tidal Pool’ pendant is an elegant and tactile form that exhibits both sculptural and painterly qualities. Attention to fine detail is the hall mark of this class as we take care to finish both the front and back with creative and artistic solutions. The pendant is a generous 3-4 inches long.
Students will learn a whole range of simple but effective sculpting , modeling and texturing methods Donna has developed that can be combined in an endless variety so that each pendant is personal and one of a kind.
To bring more depth and visual texture to the pendant, Donna will share her method of painting with translucent acrylic glazes. Not only does this process add the beauty of hand mixed colors, it also lends a luminous quality to the surface as students can opt to add metallic and pearl effects to their work. As an added feature, Donna will provide natural pearls and tiny shells to add as delicate accents. Students will learn proper ways of embedding them securely.
Finally, the Tidal Pools pendant will be strung on pearlized leather cording that will be provided and Donna will show how to make a unique, shell inspired polymer clasp to complete the necklace.
All methods and techniques taught in this informative class are very adaptable to many design concepts including other jewelry forms, tile making, wall sculpture and vessels. Student will leave with a whole new set of techniques for their creative toolbox.
Cost per student per one day class includes those materials mentioned in this offering : Leather cording, pearls, shells, paints and varnish for glaze. All other materials will be supplied by students.
